Harry Kortikere's grassroots candidacy for State Rep- Somerville

I am a resident of Somerville and a candidate for State Representative from 27th Middlesex (Somerville)

During the course of my campaign, I have had the opportunity to talk to people of Somerville about their concerns on jobs, wages, healthcare costs, infrastructure issues and a myriad of other challenges and as a Committee member, have had the opportunity to weigh in on some of these issues.

I am passionate about helping local & small businesses/start ups, increasing funding for trade schools, adjusting minimum wage for inflation, protecting workers rights, women’s rights, preserving our environment, promoting art & culture in our community and passing term limits for legislative offices.

Prior to joining Harvard, I spent over a decade in technology, business & consulting and I intend to bring a decade of experience in shaping policies that will help Massachusetts!

Hi Harry - I'm trying to figure out what you might do if elected. You call out (on your site) that you'd like to increase funding for highways, roads, and bridges. None of these really help those in Somerville - we need the Green Line Extension, de-elevation of McGrath. Your opponent supports these things quite strongly: I've seen her at nearly every relevant public meeting, speaking out on these issues. Where do you stand?

Hi Jonah - I would absolutely support local infrastructure priorities like green line extension & de-elevation of the McGrath Highway. Infact both of these would positively help the union sq community. Research done through MIT Urban Transportation planning clearly outline the benefits and the synergies that exist in timing this with the green-line extension. However given that McGrath Highway is a major artery in and out of Boston, MassDOT needs to carefully weigh the positive benefits with execution timeline, cost etc. Aside from these local issues, we should also focus on Statewide infrastructure priorities that I have outlined.
