Creating a Beautiful Place: The Better Homes Movement in Somerville, 1922-1930

Lecture on original research by Dee Morris, acclaimed author and local historian.

The 1920s national campaign to encourage ownership, beautification, and improvement of the private home was a hit in Somerville.
Public-spirited women aided by local businessmen embraced the idea. Better Homes Week featured a local remodeled house. Members of schools,
libraries and clubs joined in the movement enthusiastically. Somerville
had entered a new era: Home, Beautiful Home.

Admission: $8, free to Historic Somerville members.  Reception to follow.
