Secrets & Motion

This September, be among the first to see Luminarium Dance Company’s new feature production, Secrets & Motion, which combines dance, light, and text to create a performance riddled with contemplative thought, and a little humor. Collaborating with photographer Larry Pratt and installation artist Hannah Verlin, Luminarium presents an evening inspired by the secrets we keep share, and dismantle, while transforming the Armory into a breathing work of art.

Friday and Saturday, Sept 13 & 14 at 8pm - Sunday, September 15 at 2pm

Secrets & Motion is an evening of several new works by Luminarium Artistic Directors Merli V. Guerra and Kimberleigh A. Holman, woven into one cohesive production. Among the highlights of Secrets & Motion is a new dance-on-camera film by Guerra and group work by Holman. Played in reverse, Guerra's film The One I Keep questions the secrets we withhold versus the multitude we share, told through the eyes of a solo performer caught in the turbulence of thousands of flying paper notes. Adding levity to the production, Holman will present a dark-but-comedic trio based on the Benjamin Franklin quote “three can keep a secret if two of them are dead,” all set to a Mozart piano sonata.  From solo studies to large group movement, each piece of choreography finds inspiration in historical or contemporary secrets, hidden text, cultural phenomena, or personal experience.
