Youthquake Theater, Boston’s troupe of young actors presents “Much Ado About Nothing,” Shakespeare’s comedy about family, obsession, and that crazy little thing called love. Youthquake offers a novel approach to the Bard, achieved through non-traditional casting, the energy of youth, fresh ideas, and cool music by Queen.

The plot of “Much Ado About Nothing” is a delectable comic tale spun with Shakespeare’s usual genius. Benedick and Beatrice bicker so blatantly, the casual observer might miss the fact that they’re meant for each other. Never fear. With interfering friends like Claudio and Hero (who are anxiously awaiting their own blissful nuptials), the two B’s are bound to fall under each other’s spell. Claudio and Hero hatch a plan to get the two rivals to put aside their petty differences and fall head over heels.  Meanwhile, Don John is also scheming, and his intentions are not so benevolent. He tricks Claudio into thinking his beloved Hero has been unfaithful, threatening the pair’s wedding and happiness. The watch, headed by the noble Dogberry, come to the rescue after overhearing Don John’s scoundrels bragging about their deception.  As in the best of Shakespeare’s merry comedies, all is set right in the end as the young lovers, and the older lovers, celebrate in a double wedding.

Founded in June 2012, Youthquake Theater started out with a random idea (Let’s do Hamlet in the backyard!) and took off with a bang. Through Youthquake, young people ranging in age from 7-17, stage theater productions focusing primarily on the works of William Shakespeare. We are proud to say that our productions are organized, acted, and directed entirely by children and teens.
