Journeys in Sound presents another edition of "Crossing Musical Borders"

From India to Brazil and somewhere in between  ....

Join us for another exciting edition of "Crossing Musical Borders" , a collaborative project with the New England Conservatory, where this time we will musically visit India and Brazil as well as some places in between.

Sitarist Sonny Lalchandani will perform a set of Indian classical music with tabla player Ishwhin Dembla and violinist/fiddler Rachel Panitch as well as doing some arrangements of American/European/Irish folk tunes for sitar/violin.

NEC honors ensemble “Choro Bastardo” will perform a mix of traditional Brazilian choro music as well as original arrangements and compositions. Choro is an instrumental music based on improvisation that grew out of the cafés of Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century. It combines African rhythms mixed with Portuguese melodies and other worldly influences. "Choro Bastardo" will feature Henrique Eisenmann on piano, Ben Andrews on violin, Ilya Portnov on harmonica and a guest pandeiro (Brazillian hand frame drum) player.

suggested donation $8, $5 for students and seniors
