Urban Chickens 101

"Urban Chickens 101" is the topic for the October meeting of the Somerville Garden Club. Khrysti Smyth, Somerville resident and chicken enthusiast, will give an overview of raising chickens in an urban setting, followed by a question and answer session and a chance to meet some of her hens. Smyth has degrees in Wildlife and Fisheries Services, and Urban Ecology. Through her company, "Yardbirds Backyard Chickens", Smyth offers classes and childrens programs, municipal zoning consultation, coop design, set-up and maintenance, and a chicken sitting service.

The Somerville Garden Club meets the second Wednesday of every month; meetings are free and the public is invited to attend. Each meeting begins with club announcements, followed by a horticultural roundtable discussion, a garden-related lecture or demonstration, and concludes with a raffle of donated plants, books, and tools. Parking is available, and the building is a short walk from the Davis Square Red Line station.
