Community Corner

Queer Open Mic

7:00pm-9:30pm
Every First Thursday
$5-$20 at door

Find community. Find your voice.

This is a monthly all-gender open mic event for queer/genderqueer/transgender folks and their friends, partners, community, and allies.

Do you journal? Write poetry? Are you working on a novel or a memoir? Do you blog about the world, your world? Come share 5 minutes of your writing with us. You’ll find yourself warmly welcomed by a community of appreciative listeners and other awesome writer-readers. And that’s right, attendees who want to have their heartstrings twanged, their imaginations piqued, and their funnybones tickled will not be disappointed.

This open mic will have music as well as readings! Singers and musicians are invited to share their own pieces or cover other artists’ for 10-minute sets. Acoustic-only, please.

Are you a shy writer? Big on the writing, but no so much with the reading out-loud? Bring a short piece of your own work and one of our volunteer readers will stand up to lend their voice to read your work.

We ask that you help us make this a low-scent event by not wearing perfume/cologne or other scented products.

The $5-$20 sliding scale door donation will help fund WHWN’s pro bono work within the community. Since 2001, Write Here Write Now (www.writeherewritenow.org) has been dedicated to providing safe, supportive, and financially accessible services and spaces for LGBTQQIA people in the Boston (metro) and Western Massachusetts area and serves national and international communities through the use of the internet and other electronic and social media.
