Drumming and Dancing Workshop: Dr. Ephraim Amu & Notation-based Music in Africa—A Symposium and Festival

New England Conservatory’s Departments of Music Theory and Ethnomusicology, Intercultural Institute, and the Tufts University Department of Music present a symposium and festival celebrating the music of Ghanaian composer Dr. Ephraim Amu (1899-1995). The two-day symposium features performances, workshops, and presentations, and will explore Amu’s music as well as music of others who identify as composers on the African continent.

On February 22, two workshops at Tufts explore Dr. Amu's choral music and traditional Ewe ritual music for percussion and dance. Nani Agbeli will lead the first workshop on traditional drumming and dance.

The activities of the symposium and festival are free and open to the public, and no tickets are required. Call 617.627.3679 (Tufts) for more information.
