The on Beacon Street, near Inman Square, could become a Whole Foods. The upscale supermarket is looking to acquire the market along with five other Johnnie's Foodmasters in the Boston area. We asked people for their thoughts on the matter, and there were . On Facebook, people were pretty much against the idea.


A new online portal allows Somerville residents to look at all sorts of data from the city: 311 data, information from Traffic and Parking, maps of reported rodent sightings and more. Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone was in Tampa, Fla., the site of the Republican National Convention, to participate in the Democratic Party's "War Room," set up blocks away from the convention to counter comments made by Republican speakers.

Home sales through July were up in Somerville, we learned this week. July saw a 28 percent increase in home sales compared to July 2011. On the year through July, home sales were up 50 percent compared to the same period in 2011.


Somerville Public Schools announced some new department heads. At , Karen Woods is the new head of the science department; Jodi Remington is the new head of the English department, and Jim Nocito is the new head of the world language department. Lauren Mancini has been named director of Food and Nutrition Services for the school district.
