Somerville man held in connection to shooting
Somerville resident Santano Dessin was arraigned Tuesday and charged with shooting a 28-year-old in the neck on Nov. 11. His lawyer said Dessin was defending his home. Prosecutors said Dessin had taken video on his cell phone of part of the incident and that the video "does not show an incident of self defense." At a court hearing held Friday, prosecutors said the victim was on life support and clinging to his life, and they argued that Dessin baited the victim into a confrontation before the shooting, according to Boston.com. Dessin was held without bail, Boston.com said.

A plan to reconstruct Beacon Street, which would eliminate parking along one side of the road to make room for cycle tracks, elicited strong opinions at a meeting Tuesday night. Some residents and businesses along Beacon Street think the elimination of parking would be devastating to the area. Others, including bicyclists and other residents, support the plan.

Two fires
Firefighters put a fire in a Beacon Street apartment Wednesday night. Two residents were temporarily displaced. On Thursday morning, firefighters put out another fire, on Everett Avenue in East Somerville. There were no injuries.

Somerville High School's boys soccer team had a busy week. On Nov. 11 they clinched a division championship with a win over St. Johns Prep. On Wednesday, however, the team fell to Needham in its bid for a state championship.
