WEEK IN REVIEW: Hurricane Sandy, Union Square Bank Robbery

Hurricane Sandy
Somerville was battered by Hurricane Sandy Monday. The storm uprooted trees, knocked down power lines, caused flooding and led to isolated power outages. It caused significant damage to the Somerville High School roof; the roof of City Hall also experienced damage. Some people were evacuated from their homes when an uprooted tree threatened a gas line, and the roof blew off a home in East Somerville.

Union Square bank robbery
The Citizens Bank in Union Square was robbed Tuesday, the day after Hurricane Sandy. It was the second time the bank was robbed in about two weeks. Police were searching for the suspect.

26th Middlesex Debate
Candidates for state representative in the 26th Middlesex District—State Rep. Timothy Toomey, Republican Thomas Vasconcelos and Progressive Independent Mike Connolly—debated for the second time Tuesday. They spent a significant amount of time discussing campaign finances.
