WEEK AHEAD: Valentine's Day, Hockey

There's always something happening in Somerville. Click on headlines to see these events (except for the first headline).

Valentine's Day

Tuesday is Saint Valentine's Day, when you only get cards from your fifth-grade classmates because your teacher said, "If you're going to hand out cards, you have to hand them out to every student in the class," but your teacher can't control the palpable sense that your classmates are indifferent to you, as evidenced by your collection of 19 generic cards, none of them with a message written inside.

But never mind that. Tuesday is Valentine's Day! If you're looking for something to do, somewhere to go, some place to let your knickers do the thinking, check out our Valentine's Day guides, here and here.

Consider this a way to make Valentine's Day eat your dust. Edgar Allan Poe will come back to life (in the form of literary historian Rob Velella, who will portray the writer) to read works that walk the thin line between love and death. The reading takes place Friday at 7 p.m. at the .

Introduce your child, ages 4 to 9, to hockey. The kids will take their first steps on ice, and they may even play a little. This free event is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Satuday at the . If your kid has fun, you can enroll him or her in hockey lessons for the next four weeks. With school vacation coming up, this could be a good thing. Find out more and register here.
