Davis Square and Other Areas Hit By Power Outages Wednesday

There were reports of power outages near Porter Square and near Somerville Hospital, too.

Much of Davis Square suffered sporadic power outages Wednesday, and there were also reports of power outages along Elm Street near Porter Square, near Somerville Hospital and at the intersection of Elm Street and Somerville Avenue.

Lisa Defreitas, general manager of the , a clothing store in Davis Square, said she lost power for about 45 minutes Wednesday afternoon and had to evacuate the store as a result.

"No business for almost an hour. That put a dent in our day," she said.

Defreitas said the power went out at about 12:50 p.m. and came back on at about 1:40 p.m.

Next door at , General Manager Andrea Patrascu said the restaurant didn't lose any business because they have a back-up power system.

An NSTAR worker in Davis Square said the area lost power sometime Wednesday morning, then NSTAR workers got the power back up and running, only to see the power go out again in the afternoon.

The worker said it seemed like a problem with a circuit breaker, and crews were testing utility holes all along Elm Street to find the problem.

The worker, speaking at about 2 p.m. Wednesday, said the northeast side of Elm Street—where is—was still only with partial power.

Somerville's 311 Facebook page reported the problem at about 1 p.m.:

Getting reports of a power outage in the Davis Square area. We have reported it to NStar please let us know if you have also lost power. Thank you!

Residents who responded to the post reported power was also out on Conwell Street near and on Holyoke Road.

According to police scanner transmissions, broadcast at about 1:07 p.m., traffic lights were out at the intersection of Beacon Street and Somerville Avenue.

On Twitter, @angieo13 posted, "Traffic lights by Porter Square - Somerville Ave/Elm Street are down as well."
