New Gluten/Wheat Free Bakery to Open Tuesday
Something Sweet Without Wheat, the new gluten/wheat free bakery in East Arlington, will open Tuesday, Jan. 29, according to a Wednesday press release from its store manager, Teresa Fiore. The Woburn-based specialty bakery, which is also 95 percent dairy free and nut free, except for coconuts, is in the old Barismo spot at 169 Mass. Ave.


Medford's Go Green Program to Receive Innovation Award
Medford's efforts to go green are being recognized with an honor from the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA). Medford's Go Green Program has been selected at the recipient of the 2012 Kenneth E. Pickard Municipal Innovation Award, presented by the MMA. “Go Green Medford was selected because the program demonstrates dedication, commitment, and ability to increase the effectiveness of local government by successfully implementing this unique and creative project,” MMA Executive Geoffrey C. Beckwith said in a statement.


Road Rage on Alford Street 
A man driving on Alford Street on Wednesday, Jan. 16 told police that another driver punched him in the face. The victim was reportedly sitting in traffic just before the Alford Street bridge when the operator of a silver Ford truck attempted to make a u-turn but was not able to. The Ford driver then allegedly jumped out of his truck and punched the victim in the face. The assailant fled the scene before police arrived.

Back Bay

Audrey's Pet Supply and Services will be closing because it can't afford the 133 percent rent increase its landlord demanded, according to Brittany Bang, Audrey's owner. The new tenant at 296 Newbury St. will be Yogurtland, a California-based frozen yogurt shop, Bang said.
