Five Things: Veterans Day, Civil War Talk

1) Veterans Day
Today, Monday, is Nov. 12. Veterans Day fell on a Sunday this year, but today is the public observation of the holiday. Learn what's closed and open here. Check out some local deals for veterans and service members here.

2) Civil War talk and wreath laying
Daniel Breen will give a talk about the "Somerville Company." The title of the talk is, "From Prospect Hill to Salisbury Prison: the Struggles of the 39th Massachusetts Volunteers." It's at 2 p.m. at the Somerville Museum. Afterward, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at the Civil War Monument on Somerville Avenue.

3) Big Sister anniversary
Somerville resident Erin Taylor recently celebrated her one-year Big Sister anniversary with her Little Sister, Nyesha, of Cambridge. Anyone interested in volunteering or donating to the mentoring program should visit BigSister.org.
