Tony Maws' Somerville Restaurant to Open in August

The Kirkland Tap & Trotter will be more casual than Maws' other restaurant, Craigie on Main.

Tony Maws' new Somerville restaurant, The Kirkland Tap & Trotter, will open in August, according to media reports and the restaurant's Facebook page.

Maws is chef and owner of the popular Craigie on Main in Cambridge, and The Kirkland Tap & Trotter will open in the storefront formerly occupied by the Kirkland Cafe, at 425 Washington Street.

This will make it the most recent addition to a corner of Somerville that's becoming a foodie mecca. It's in the same immediate area as Bergamot and Dalí, two other popular restaurants, and the gourmet food store Savenor's, along with Wine & Cheese Cask, The Biscuit and The Kebab Factory.

According to the Boston Herald and The Daily Meal, Kirkland Tap & Trotter will open in August, but no specific opening date is set.

The restaurant will be more casual than Craigie on Main, according to the reports. The Boston Herald listed "grilled spice-crusted chicken wings with radishes and arugula, grilled red chile salmon head with oxalis, and grilled sardines Provençale with parsley and red onion" as sample menu items.

It will have a 12-seat bar that serves wine, beer and cocktails, according to The Daily Meal.
