Tony Maws' Kirkland Tap & Trotter Announces Opening Date

One of the most eagerly anticipated restaurants in Somerville—if not all of Boston—is set to open soon.

Kirkland Tap & Trotter, the new Somerville restaurant by Craigie on Main's Tony Maws, is set to open Monday, Sept. 16, at 5 p.m., according to Craigie on Main's Facebook page.

Kirkland Tap & Trotter's Facebook page also made the announcement by posting a Boston.com article about the opening.

Somerville restaurant fans have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the restaurant since Maws said he was coming to Somerville in January. The new restaurant, at 425 Washington St., is in the storefront formerly occupied by Kirkland Cafe.

If you can't wait less than a week to get a table, you might want to spend a few minutes checking out the restaurant's website, although as of Tuesday afternoon it didn't include menus.

The website describes Kirkland Tap & Trotter as having an "atmosphere [that] embodies an eclectic and cozy neighborhood vibe akin to some of the best 'gastropubs' in England." It will serve less expensive and less formal food than Craigie on Main, and it will have 115 seats, a 12-seat bar, a wood-fired grill, a large beer list and cocktails.
