T.W. Food Owners Opening Restaurant in Union Square's Ronnarong Space

Tim and Bronwyn Weichmann, from T.W. Food in Cambridge, are planning to open a restaurant, featuring new American cuisine and local ingredients, sometime in the fall.

The duo behind T.W. Food, a highly rated restaurant in Cambridge's Huron Village, are planning to open a new eatery in the space currently occupied by in Union Square.

Tim and Bronwyn Weichmann appeared before the Somerville Licensing Commission Monday night to secure a liquor license for the new restaurant. The commission approved the transfer of the liquor license from , which is facing bankruptcy, according to proceedings at the commission meeting. 

Speaking after their appearance at the meeting, Tim Weichmann said the new restaurant will feature New American cuisine with a "European cultural influence."

The Weichmann's current restaurant, T.W. Food, was named one of the five best French restaurants in the Boston area by Zagat, serving "seasonal New-American-New French fare."

Tim Weichmann said they're choosing to open in Union Square because "it's inviting" and it has "independent businesses" and "it's creative."

They said they're hoping to open in September or October, but noted the process of opening a restaurant often takes longer than planned.

In addition to permitting and construction, the state's Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission has to approve the liquor license transfer, which could take a few months.
