Somerville Resident's Video Game Has One Goal: Drinking Soda

In Soda Drinker Pro there's no running, jumping, shooting, killing villains or solving riddles … just drinking soda from a big cup.

Will Brierly, a 32-year-old Somerville resident, has been getting some recent media attention for a video game he created that has one goal, and one goal only: to drink soda.

The Boston Herald recently wrote about about Brierly's "Soda Drinker Pro," and the video game has been reviewed on CNET, Mashable and YouTube.

Here's how Mashable explain's the game's objective:

The mission, should you choose to accept it, is to drink all the soda from your giant cup. Click the left mouse button to hold the straw to your mouth, click the right mouse button to sip soda. If you're really good, you can acquire bonus sodas hidden in each level. And by "hidden," we mean floating in plain sight. It's the kind of realism and verisimilitude that's hard to come by in today's flashy, first-person action titles.

Apparently, there are no villains to fight, no obstacles to surmount, no riddles to solve, no running, jumping or shooting … just drinking soda from a cup. If you can do that, you win.

Brierly told the Herald, "I just thought it would be really fun to make a game where you just drink soda."

Mashable says he first created the game about six or seven years ago, but in 2012 some members of the Providence Soda Club discovered it, and the game took on new life. The Herald says it's approaching the 100,000-download mark.
