Some crave food trucks and say they'll drive foot traffic in Somerville. Others think they'll take away business from bricks-and-mortar establishments in the city. What do you think.

The city of Somerville is .

Depending on how it's written, the ordinance could encourage the establishment of a food truck culture in Somerville, or it could be so restrictive that food truck operators are driven away.

There are various opinions about the matter.

JJ, on the other hand, wrote, "[I]f the city wants to compete with Boston and Cambridge as a destination for residents and visitors, ignoring the fact that people love food trucks is myopic ... if you put food trucks in a place like Union and Davis, you're going to drive more foot traffic there."

The only question I have about food trucks in Somerville on a regular, daily ongoing basis is whether or not having them there during regular business hours will undermine conventional businesses that're already in the area.

The Davis Sq lot where the Farmers Market sets up would be a nice place for a cluster of food trucks; it seems to be more of a draw when there are a handful of them operating simultaneously (SOWA is a great example).
