Now Open: Sarma, Ana Sortun's New Somerville Restaurant

Sarma, a new meze restaurant by acclaimed chef Ana Sortun, owner Oleana and Sofra Bakery and Cafe, and Cassie Piuma, long-time chef de cuisine at Oleana, is now open.

The restaurant opened Tuesday night, according to the man who answered the phone at Sarma.

Meze, a Turkish tradition, are small plates, and according to a menu posted on Boston.com, some of the meze offered at Sarma include squid with cherry tomatoes, corn, hot peppers and orzo; octopus with bean plaki and celery; and lamb ribs with pomegranates and pita-pistachio crumb.

Check out the menu at Boston.com.

The menu says "sarma" refers to a specific kind of wrapped or rolled meze, and the menu includes four choices of sarma, including one made with warm figs and lardo with taleggio and endive.

The restaurant will also serve cocktails created by Vic Hegde, formerly head bartender at Island Creek Oyster Bar.

The Facebook page for Oleana, Sarma's sister restaurant, says Sarma's bar opens at 5 p.m., and dinner begins at 5:30 p.m.

The restaurant is at 249 Pearl St., formerly home to The Paddock restaurant.

The phone number is (617) 764-4464.
