LEGOLAND Is Coming to Assembly Row

LEGOLAND Discovery Center will have rides, LEGO workshops and a LEGO MINILAND version of Boston.

New England's first LEGOLAND Discovery Center, a giant LEGO play area for kids, is coming to Somerville's Assembly Row in spring of 2014.

According to an announcement from Federal Realty Investment Trust, the real estate company that's developing Assembly Row in Somerville's Assembly Square, the LEGOLAND Discovery Center will be a "fun, highly interactive educational two- to three-hour indoor experience specifically designed for families with children 3-10 years old."

It will include:

  • Rides
  • A "4D cinema"
  • An interactive LEGO factory tour experience
  • LEGO-building workshops
  • Themed play areas
  • Party rooms
  • LEGO MINILAND, featuring LEGO versions of famous Boston buildings, such as the Prudential Center and Quincy Market.
According to the LEGOLAND website, Somerville's will be the sixth LEGOLAND Discovery Center in the United States. There are other Discovery Centers in Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, Kansas City and Westchester, NY.

Around the world, there are other LEGOLAND Discovery Centers in Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan, and LEGO also has six LEGOLAND Parks, the website says.

According to the Boston Globe, Nike and Le Creuset, the cooking store, have also recently signed deals to come to Assembly Row.

Brooks Brothers, Saks off Fifth, Puma and Chico's are other retailers that will open in the development.
