Gov. Patrick Celebrates Greentown Labs' Move to Somerville

The governor was in Somerville Thursday. Also, Greentown Labs' founder and director talked about their plans for the space.

Greentown Labs, a green-technology incubator that's moving to Somerville in September, brining close to 100 jobs to the city, celebrated its upcoming move Thursday with Gov. Deval Patrick and Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone.

Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs Richard K. Sullivan, Jr. and Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Greg Bialecki also came to Somerville to speak about the move.

Greentown Labs is moving from Boston's Innovation District into a 33,000 square-foot space that once belonged to the Ames Safety Envelope company, which left Somerville in 2010.

The company provides startup space to 28 smaller companies working in green energy and technology. It's hoping to grow bigger in Somerville.

On Thursday, Patrick spoke about expanding the innovation economy in Massachusetts. Greentown Labs founder, Jason Hanna, and its executive director, Emily Reichert, spoke to Somerville Patch about their plans for the space.
