Everett Casino Proposal Moves Forward

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission said Wynn Resorts is suitable to run a casino in Everett.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission announced Friday that it has found Wynn Resorts "suitable" to run a casino in Everett, according to the commission's website.

Having passed the suitability test, Wynn Resorts can move forward with phase 2 of its application to build a casino in Everett—on a parcel of land that's right on Somerville's doorstep.

The Everett casino plan will compete against another proposal, at Suffolk Downs in Revere, for the lone casino license in Greater Boston.

The Gaming Commission will likely issue a license in April or May of 2014.

Many in Somerville, including the mayor and the Somerville Board of Aldermen, have opposed the Wynn casino proposal in Everett.
