A Casino Near Somerville: What Do You Think?
Everett wants a casino. What do you want?
After casino mogul Steve Wynn held a press conference last week in Everett about the possibility of building a casino in that city—just across the river from Somerville's Assembly Square—Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone told the Boston Globe a casino would come to Somerville "over my dead body."
It seems Everett is keen on landing a gambling establishment. Even earlier in November, before meeting with Wynn, that city's mayor, Carlo DeMaria, said he was in talks with Hard Rock International to build a casino.
When we polled Somerville readers last year about casinos coming to Massachusetts, most said they didn't want them. Most of Somerville's state legislators were also against casinos.
