This Weekend in Somerville: Fluff Fest, Tufts Community Day

Things happening in Somerville this weekend.

Fluff Festival
The annual Fluff Festival—one of Somerville's biggest events of the year—is this weekend in Union Square. It celebrates, yes, marshmallow Fluff, which was invented in Union Square. There will be performances, a Pharaoh of Fluff competition, games for kids and adults and, of course, lots of Fluff-inspired food. People dress in costume and generally have a good time. It takes place Saturday beginning at about 3 p.m.

Tenth Annual Tufts Community Day
Somerville residents and neighbors are invited to Tufts University for a barbecue, performances for children, music and dance by Tufts groups, family activities such as pumpkin painting and cookie decorating and a host of other stuff. It takes place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

HomeComing: A Workshop for Your Autumn Season
According to the workshop leader, Meghan O. LeCates, writing in the event listing, "I believe the ever-unfolding rhythms, phases and cycles in the great geography of our lives are linked to our inner terrain and how we experience life day by day, season through season." In that context the workshop celebrates autumn. It's from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Unity Somerville, at it costs $35.

Design Talk with Christine "N'EastStyle" Mitchell
Stylist Christine Mitchell will talk about the sartorial side of things, including her new work influenced by country living in Maine and Vermont, at the Somerville Public Library, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Somerville's Ibbetson Street Presents: Small Press Festival
This festival, which takes place in South Boston, celebrates small presses and little magazines as the backbone of the literary community. Somerville's Ibbetson Street Press will be there, and it takes place Saturday at 100 K St., 2nd floor, South Boston at 7 p.m.
