Chick Singer Night
Chick Singer Night, a national movement, showcases female singers and songwriters. The Boston chapter holds its showcase at Johnny D's Saturday at 4 p.m.

Last Union Square Farmers Market of 2012
Saturday is your last chance to shop at the Union Square Farmers Market until next year. The market is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Fear not, farmers market fans, the Winter Farmers Market begins on Dec. 1 at The Center for Arts at the Armory.

Veterans square dedication ceremonies
Somerville is dedicating three squares to veterans on Saturday. Here's when and where the ceremonies will take place, plus the names of the veterans the squares are being dedicated to:

  • 11 a.m.: , Pearson and Morrison avenues, Quartermaster 3rd Class Philip G. Gagliardi, U.S. Navy, Korean War
  • 12 p.m.: Boston Avenue near Highland Road and Ball Square, Apprentice Seaman Carmine Paglinca, U.S. Navy, Spanish-American War
  • 1 p.m.: Joy and Washington streets, Private John E. Burns, U.S. Marine Corps, World War II; Private William P. Burns, U.S. Army, World War II; Staff Sergeant Thomas J. Burns, U.S. Army, World War II; Corporal Francis J. Burns, U.S. Marine Corps, World War II


The Early Childhood Literacy Fair is free. Children can meet animals from the New England Zoo and New England Aquarium. There will be activities, such as "make a book," and the opportunity to take your photo with Curious George. Parents can learn about early education programs in the city. There's also a book swap. Bring a gently used book and exchange it for another. It's at 10 a.m. at the Healey School.

Oaxacan woodcarving at Brickbottom Artists Association
Ventura Fabian and his son, Norberto, are well-known woodcarvers from Oaxaca, Mexico. They'll be creating hand-carved, hand-painted Oaxacan wooden figures on Saturday and Sunday at the Brickbottom Artists Association. It's Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Wrap Around cupcake reception
The sale of scarves, hats, blankets, gloves and other handmade knit items will benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition. There will also be cupcakes. It's Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Nave Gallery.

Doggie Book Club
The Doggie Book Club will be discussing "A Dog's Purpose." It's Saturday at 3 p.m. at The Book Shop in Ball Square.

The Beatles Band at Radio
The band plays music from The Beatles at 4 p.m. Saturday at Radio Bar in Union Square.

Thanksgiving clothing drive
Donate gently used clothing to Second Chances and get a discount off classes at Bow Yoga. The clothing drive starts on Saturday at Bow Yoga in Union Square and runs through Nov. 25.

Flights of Melody: American Guitar Duos at Somerville Museum
From the listing: "Guitar duos heard from 1890 to 1940 in the American parlor. This program ranges through ragtime and blues to jazz and Hawaiian styles, with works by Barney and Seymore, Handy, Lang, Lucas, and McDonough and Kress." It's Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Somerville Museum.
