This Weekend in Somerville: Artbeat

Plus, you have permission to leave Somerville this weekend to attend Boston's Outside the Box festival.

ArtBeat
ArtBeat takes over Davis Square on Friday and Saturday. It features more than 75 crafts vendors and artists, plus more than a dozen bands and dance troupes. This year's theme is "micro." Artists will explore small things, along with "microscopes, microwaves, microgrooves, micro-beers, micro-grants (like kickstarter) and perhaps even Micronesia," according to the Somerville Arts Council's website. The whole square will be taken over by vendors, artists, bands and visitors. It's from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. You can check the lineup of performances and events here.

Saturday Local Artist Market
Since you're at Artbeat, you can visit more artists at The Burren on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. For $5 you can get a lunch special, and you might get some air conditioning, too.

Outside the Box 2013
Head into Boston for the free Outside the Box festival. Top performers on Saturday include the The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Buffalo Tom, and The Lemonheads. On Sunday, you can check out Women of the World and Alex Gable and Pasado de Moda, among others. Did I mention it's all free?

All Things Horror presents ... "A Measure of the Sin"
It's not the average horror film this weekend. Instead, "A Measure of the Sin" depicts "the sad, bleak life of a young woman, who along with a house filled with other women, is kept under the thumb of domineering, sadistic man that controls every aspect of her existence," according to the listing. It's Saturday at 8 p.m. at Somerville Theatre.

Boston Breakers
The Boston Breakers play the Portland Thorns Sunday at 4 p.m. at Dilboy Stadium.
