Neil Young Puts on Surprise Performance in Davis Square

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame musician climbed on stage at Johnny D's Wednesday night and surprised the crowd with a new song.

Have you ever daydreamed about being at a local restaurant or pub that plays live music, and then, suddenly, a rock and roll legend climbs onto the stage and plays some new material, and it's basically a private show?

Well, I have, and I'm absolutely kicking myself for not being at Johnny D's in Davis Square Wednesday night.

During a regularly scheduled performance by Pegi Young & the Survivors, Neil Young, who happens to be Pegi's husband, got on stage and played a new song.

Rolling Stone says the song was apparently called "Drive My Car."

BostonHerald.com, Boston Magazine and Vanyaland also have some coverage of the surprise performance.

The reports note that Johnny D's is an intimate, 300-seat venue, and Rolling Stone points out that the band, the Survivors, includes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame keyboardist Spooner Oldham and other veterans of past Neil Young tours.

Johny D's Facebook page has some photos of the crowds that gathered after the performance.

You can watch the surprise performance in the YouTube video above.
