Riverfest will feature eight live bands, seven food trucks, fireworks, performances and activities for children, an Edsel car show and more. It takes place in Assembly Square Saturday from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. See the .


If you love dogs, don't miss the third annual , which features the popular doggy fashion show with a prize given for best dressed dog. There's also a best trick contest, demonstrations from the police K9 unit, Frisbee dogs, "try it" workshops for Somerville dogs and their owners, food, a silent auction and more. The Boston Comedy Festival is bringing several top comics to Somerville this weekend and next week. On Saturday, Jimmy Tingle and Andy Kindler will be at , and on Sunday the best standup competition begins with preliminary rounds. .


is hosting a traditional outdoor Oktoberfest Biergarten Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The parking lot of the Magoun Square CVS will turn into a Biergarten with six beers on tap from Germany's Paulaner Brewery, and people can eat traditional German fare such as Bratwurst and Jägerschnitzel.


The Damba Festival is one of the most important events in Ghana, featuring music, performances and a celebration of culture and religion. is hosting a three-day Damba Festival with concerts, pageantry, symposiums and a talk by a former Ghanian vice president. Etheria Film Festival
The Etheria Film Festival features new short science-fiction and fantasy films directed by women. There will be screenings of films by Mexican, Italian, American, Australian and Canadian filmmakers. It takes place Saturday at from 4 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Afterward there will be an afterparty.


The Brian Higgins Foundation supports children with special needs and their families. On Sunday the foundation is hosting its annual Half Way to St. Patrick's Day roadrace. It begins Sunday at 10 a.m. at in Ball Square.

Dancing under McGrath: Project MUM
Project MUM, "meet under McGrath" takes place Sunday at 1 p.m. Basically, it's a dance party under the McGrath Highway. More here.
