A Summer of Outdoor Movies Begins Tonight with 'Karate Kid'

SomerMovie Fest will feature eight films, shown every Thursday at parks in Somerville.

If you enjoy movies, but you also like being outdoors, you're in luck.

A summer of outdoor movies in Somerville begins Thursday night with a showing of Karate Kid—the one from 2010 staring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan, not the original 1984 version with Ralph Maccio.

Part of , Karate Kid will begin at 8:30 p.m. at outside Davis Square, where most of the SomerMovie Fest showings will be.

, near Union Square, and , also near Davis Square, will also host movies this summer.

SomerMovie Fest will take place every Thursday through August 25, and it features popular new movies, such as the Twilight saga's Eclipse, in addition to old favorites, like The Outsiders.

The last film of the summer, on August 25, is a viewers' choice. Moviegoers will case votes throughout the summer for one of four movies: A Streetcar Named Desire, Megamind, Rushmore and Tootsie.
