Two Homes Catch Fire Near Porter Square Tuesday Morning
Somerville experienced yet another early morning fire, this one near Porter Square. There have been several this summer. Tuesday's fire was deemed accidental, but several others are considered suspicious. We took a brief look at a summer of fires in Somerville.

World's Smallest Art Museum Opens in Union Square
At 10 inches by 8 inches by 16 inches, it's hard to think of a public gallery space that's smaller than the Somerville Micro Museum's. The museum opened Thursday night in Union Square to a large crowd. We captured video.

Opening Day Set for Beacon Street Whole Foods
The long-awaited Whole Foods on Beacon Street, near Inman Square, will open on Sept. 4, according to the supermarket company. There will be a traditional "bread breaking" ceremony that morning.

Casino Debate Heats Up
The war of words—which is what I'm calling the relatively civil discourse surrounding a disagreement—over a proposed casino in Everett heated up this week when we learned Everett's mayor criticized Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino about their opposition to the proposal. Curtatone spoke about the casino proposal on NECN later in the week.

A4 Pizza Opens
The new pizza place, run by the folks at Kendall Square's Area Four, opened outside Union Square Monday night.

'Boston Underdogs,' Starring Somerville Native, Airs on TLC
Stacia Gorgone, who runs a dog rescue, starred in a reality TV episode about her work, which aired on TLC Monday.

Bulger Convicted
James "Whitey" Bulger, one-time leader of the Winter Hill Gang, was convicted by a jury of several murders along with racketeering, firearms, money-laundering and conspiracy charges. We asked people in Winter Hill what they thought.

National Poetry Slam
The National Poetry Slam, featuring 72 teams from across the United States and Canada, were in Somerville and Cambridge this week for the poetry competition.
