Throwing Out Your Christmas in Somerville

Real trees thrown out in January will be mulched.

Somerville residents can throw out their Christmas trees with their regular trash, according to the Department of Public Works' website.

The website says real trees thrown out in January will be picked up by the DPW and mulched.

Artificial trees, and real trees thrown out after January, will be picked up by normal garbage trucks.

See the DPW's trash disposal and recycling procedures.

One DPW mulching truck, seen on Jan. 6, could be smelled a block away thanks to the scent of the Christmas trees.
