Somerville’s Population Continues to Rise

Somerville’s population increased by 4 percent between 2010 and 2013, according to new U.S. Census data released this week.

Somerville had 75,823 residents in 2010 and that number rose 2,981 to 78,804 in 2013.

The 4 percent figure for Somerville is higher than the 1 percent median growth rate among Massachusetts communities that was reported by the Boston Business Journal but well below the 10 percent population increase in Cohasset, which saw the most growth in the state.

Communities near Somerville also saw an influx of residents: Boston 4 percent increase, Arlington 3 percent, Cambridge 2 percent and Medford 2 percent.
