Somerville: One of Top Cities in Nation for Gay Couples

Two percent of households in Somerville are home to same-sex partners.

Somerville is one of the top ten cities in the United States when it comes to households that are home to same-sex partners, according to Huffington Post.

In fact, Somerville comes in at number six on the list, behind Portland, Maine, but ahead of Oakland, Calif.

Huffington Post reported on data released by the U.S. Census about cities with the highest concentrations of households with same-sex partners. Due to the federal government shutdown, the Census' website was not operating on Wednesday, so we'll have to take HuffPo's word for it.

Here's the list of cities on the list, followed by the percentage of households in those cities that are home to same-sex partners:

10: Warwick, R.I., 1.6 percent
9: Washington, D.C., 1.7 percent
8: Providence, R.I., 1.7 percent
7: Oakland, Calif., 1.9 percent
6: Somerville, Mass., 2 percent
5: Portland, Maine, 2.2 percent
4: Minneapolis, Minn., 2.4 percent
3: San Francisco, Calif., 2.5 percent
2: Seattle, Wash., 2.6 percent
1: Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 2.8 percent.
