Prospect Hill Square Will Honor Ted Buttner

A ceremony takes place Saturday to honor Theodore Buttner, who died in January after a pedestrian accident.

Theodore Buttner, a WWII Navy veteran, 35-year MBTA employee and parishioner at St. Joseph's in Union Square, died in January, at the age of 87, after a pedestrian accident in Peabody. He was hit by a car.

On Saturday, the city will honor Buttner by dedicating the corner of Walnut and Boston streets as Theodore Buttner Square.

Buttner was raised in Somerville and spent nearly 50 years living on Walnut Street.

During WWII, he served at Pearl Harbor after the attack and worked as an aerial photographer. He was involved in a number of local organizations, including the Medford Auxiliary Fire Department.

Saturday's square dedication ceremony takes place at 11 a.m.
