No Parking on Parts of Medford Street Through December

Parking restrictions will allow crews to repair the McCarthy Overpass, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Beginning Thursday, and lasting until Dec. 31, there will be no parking on parts of Medford Street around Prospect Hill, Washington Street and Somerville Avenue.

According to an announcement from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, parking will be restricted along Medford Street to allow crews to work on the McCathy Overpass—the section of Route 28 that carries cars over Washington Street.

MassDOT said no-parking restrictions will be in place in the following locations:

  • On the right side of Medford Street between Prospect Hill Avenue to Washington Street
  • On the left side of Medford Street between Washington Street and Somerville Avenue

The work is part of a $14.2 million effort to repair the overpass. Many in Somerville would have preferred MassDOT to tear down the crumbing highway.
