Free Ice Cream, Pulling Water Chestnuts, Somerville Teen Gets Scholarship

Head to the today between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to get some free Steve's Ice Cream.

Water chestnut pulling
Get out in a canoe, kayak or small boat this evening to help rid the Mystic River of the invasive water chestnut. , along with the Mystic River Watershed Association, Friends of the Mystic River and some other groups are sponsoring the great removal effort.

Volunteers are meeting and pulling up the water chestnuts between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at "the large field along the river on Auburn Street, Medford." There's parking on Auburn Street, then head toward the dumpster. You can sign up for the event at the Mystic River Water Association website.

Somerville teen gets scholarship to Berklee College of Music
Josue Raymond of Somerville has received the Berklee City Music College Scholarship, a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to the Berklee College of Music, according to a press announcement from the college. Raymond, a drummer, is one of 16 students from around the country to receive the scholarship.

Board of aldermen meeting
The board of aldermen meet tonight at 7 p.m. Among other things, they will discuss the matter of delays to the Green Line extension project.

Another item on their agenda: "That the Director of Traffic and Parking place a sign at the exit of the CVS municipal parking lot, against Olde Magoun Saloon, indicating that a legal parking space is available."

The city's outdoor movie series, SomerMovie Fest, ends tonight with the viewers' choice selection: Rushmore.

All summer, moviegoers were asked to vote for one of four films: A Streetcar Named Desire, Megamind, Rushmore and Tootsie.

You can see Rushmore tonight at about 8:30 p.m. at outside Davis Square.

Weather and Red Sox
It will be partly sunny with highs in the upper 80s and a chance of showers in the afternoon. The Red Sox end a weeklong road trip tonight with a game against the Rangers.
