Free Film, 'The Human Scale,' About Designing Good Cities

The public is invited to see a film about Danish architect Jan Gehl, who has transformed the way planners think about cities.

The public is invited to see a free screening of the documentary "The Human Scale" at Somerville Theatre on Jan. 30.

The film, directed by Andreas Dalsgaard, looks at humans and how they interact with cities, and it focuses on the work of Jan Gehl, a Danish architect who has studied cities for four decades and who helped make Copenhagen the happiest city in the world, according to an announcement from the city of Somerville.

The film will look at cities like New York and Melbourne, and it shows the importance of walkable cities with parks, squares and public spaces, the announcement says.

You can see a trailer for the film above.

The city of Somerville is screening the film in partnership with the New England chapter of the Congress for New Urbanism.

The film screening is from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and you can reserve tickets at humanscalesomerville.eventbrite.com.
