Five Things: WZLX Blood Drive in Cambridge, Donation to Project Soup

1) American Red Cross Blood Drive
Head to 1 Bennett St. in Cambridge for the WZLX blood drive. The first 100 people to donate blood will get a WZLX "I Gave in Vein" T-shirt, and all donors will get a free pound of Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

2) Insurance agency donates to Project Soup
Wedgwood-Crane & Connolly Insurance Agency recently made a donation to the Somerville Homeless Coalition's Project Soup, according to an announcement from the Somerville Homeless Coalition. Jack Connolly, who's also an at-large alderman in Somerville, presented the check at a recent ceremony.

3) Somerville housing complex saves energy
Peabody Properties, Inc., which operates the Mount Pleasant Apartments affordable housing complex in Somerville, has partnered with the Low-income Energy Affordability Network and Action for Boston Community Development to make their facilities more energy efficient, according to an announcement from the real estate firm. Mount Pleasant Apartments is one of the firm's facilities that has already undergone an energy audit, the announcement says. Peabody Properties estimates its efforts, on all its properties, will save them $435,000 a year.
