Bring your teddy bears and a picnic to the for the third annual Teddy Bear Picnic. This is a great event for local families and kids of all ages, and it starts at 5:30 p.m.

2) Capuano recognized for work with the blind
Rep. Michael Capuano received the 2012 Leadership Award from VisionServe Alliance, according to an announcement from Capuano's office. The congressman has advocated for Medicare reimbursements for vision services, the announcement says.

Nazha Ferradi, a graduate of , received a nursing scholarship from Mount Auburn Hospital, according to an announcement posted on Somerville Patch. Ferradi will attend UMass Lowell this fall to study nursing.

4) Text 4 Food for teens
Project Bread has expanded its "Text 4 Food" program, according to an announcement from the anti-hunger organization. The announcement describes the program like this: "Here’s how it works: teens text 617-863-MEAL (617-863-6325), and they receive a text back telling them where to find a free lunch program near them. When teens arrive at the summer meal site, they can enjoy a healthy meal and participate in fun activities. Teens can also use the program by using Twitter @txt4food."

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Red Sox are off today for the All-Star break. Tonight is the home run derby. Today will be mostly sunny with temperatures in the mid 80s. There's a slight chance of showers.
