Five Things: Oktoberfest Keg Tapping at Olde Magoun's Saloon

1) Oktoberfest keg tapping
is hosting an eight-week Oktoberfest event, and it kicks off today with a keg tapping, according to the Magoun Square establishment. As part of the festivities in September and October, Olde Magoun's will have a rotating tap of eight German beers, and it will serve German food on Wednesday and Sunday nights. The highlight will be a Biergarten, visited by Paulaner Brewery, on Sept. 15.

2) Fire hydrant flushing done
The  thanks the city for its patience during the annual flushing of the hydrants, according to an announcement from the city. According to the announcement, the fire department tests all of the city's hydrants—over 1500 of them—at least once a year, an activity accomplished from Aug. 6 to Aug. 18 this year.

3) Mass Audubon photo contest
Mass Audubon has been running a contest called "Picture This: Your Great Outdoors." It seeks photos that highlight the beauty of Massachusetts' natural environment. The contest ends Sept. 30. Learn more at www.massaudubon.org/picturethis.

4) Somerville resident to chair Bar Association section
Somerville resident Radha Natarajan has been named chair of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Criminal Justice Section, according to an announcement from the association. Natarajan is a public defender in Somerville, Malden and Woburn district courts and in Middlesex Superior Court, according to the announcement. She is a graduate of New York University Law School, and she teaches legal writing at Boston University School of Law, the announcement says.

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Red Sox play the Mariners tonight at 10:10 p.m. Today will be rainy with possible thunderstorms and highs around 80.
