Five Things: Breaking Ground on an East Somerville Park

1) Harris Park groundbreaking
East Somerville is getting a new park, and there's a groundbreaking ceremony for it today at 10:30 a.m. , which is moving from its current location near Interstate 93 to 15-25 Cross Street, near Broadway, will have play structures, a half basketball court, a water play feature and social gathering space. It scheduled to open next summer.

2) Somerville resident at Walk for Hunger Awards Ceremony
Lynn Geltman of Somerville recently attended the Walk for Hunger Awards Ceremony at the Museum of Science, according to an announcement from Project Bread, which organizes the annual fundraising walk. Geltman raised $4215 during the 2012 walk, the announcement says.

The Japanese guitarist has played at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York and is at tonight. The performance starts at 7:30 p.m.

4) School supplies drive
is teaming up with DoSomething.Org and teen actress Bella Thorne—whom I had to look up—for a school supplies drive, according to an announcement sent by organizers of the drive. The team is asking teens to donate school supplies to help young people who need them. Teens can drop off school supplies at the Assembly Square at 165 Middlesex Ave. All of the supplies will go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Middlesex County for distribution, the announcement says.

5) Weather and Red Sox
The Red Sox begin the second half of the season tonight 9.5 games back and tied for last place in the American League East. They start a three-game series against the Rays, in Tampa Bay, at 7:10 p.m. Today will be sunny with highs around 93.
