And a Somerville man travels to New Jersey with the American Red Cross.

1) Calling all artists
If you've ever wanted to produce your own cultural event or public art—with funding!—now might be your chance. ArtsUnion is accepting applications from artists who want to create or produce art and events in Union Square this winter. Applications are due Nov. 19, and you can learn more by emailing artscouncil.somerville@gmail.com or calling (617) 625-6600, ext. 2985

2) Somerville Red Cross volunteer deployed to New Jersey
Steve Napoli, of Somerville, is traveling to the New Jersey region with the American Red Cross of Eastern Massachusetts to help coordinate disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Napoli will work as a government operations specialist and will help coordinate services with local, state and federal governments, according to an announcement from the Red Cross.

3) Sculptural Metalworking: Youth Edition
Students will learn the basics of metalwork and welding to make sculptures. Ideal for kids between the ages of 12 and 16. The class series begins today at 1 p.m. at the Artisan's Asylum.

5) Weather
