Somerville held a city election on Tuesday, bringing five new faces to the Somerville Board of Aldermen and three new members to the Somerville School Committee.

Somerville Police Chief Resigns

Somerville Police Chief Thomas Pasquarello resigned on Monday, citing the need to provide around-the-clock care for a family member. The city named Capt. Charles Femino as interim acting chief, and a selection process will begin soon to find a new chief.

Somerville Sees 7 Fires in 3 Days

It was a busy week for the Somerville Fire Department, which fought seven minor fires in three days. Except for an incident involving two cars in Union Square, none of the fires were considered suspicious.

As for those cars in Union Square: They were intentionally set on fire, according to Somerville Police Chief Kevin Kelleher. The fire department and police department launched an investigation, and the fires are not thought to be connected to a string of arsons that happened in Somerville over the summer.
