'Bacon' Describes Somerville, 'Romantic' Doesn't

"Word maps" of Boston-area neighborhoods reveal what people think of them.

Words that describe Somerville include "bacon," "cocktails" and "hipster."

Words that aren't associated with Somerville include "romantic," "view" and "patio."

That's according to a series of "word maps" describing Boston's neighborhoods compiled by Yelp.

Yelp, which lets the public review restaurants, bars and other businesses, put together the maps based on 16 common words found in its reviews: bacon, cheap, cocktails, frat, hangover, hipster, PBR, pricey, yuppie, chowder, noodles, pasta, patio, romantic, tourist and view.

"Bacon" was perhaps the most common word associated with Somerville. The word map shows its prevalence in Davis, Union and Teele squares.

Some other words associated with Davis Square included "cheap" and "yuppie."

Search the map for the word "romantic," and you can watch the tumbleweed blow through Somerville (in other words, there's nothing there).

Check out the word maps here.
