12 Years Later, Somerville Will Remember September 11

Somerville will hold its annual September 11 vigil, including a procession and moment of silence.

Somerville will hold its annual September 11 vigil on Wednesday, marking the 12th year since the terrorist act occurred.

The vigil will begin at 6 p.m. at the Cedar Street entrance to the Community Path. The Somerville Police and Somerville Fire Honor Guard will accompany a procession along the Community Path to the September 11 Memorial in Davis Square, outside Mike's Food & Spirits, where there will be a short speaking program and a moment of silence.

The September 11 Memorial marks the spot where, in 2001, Somerville residents gathered to leave candles, flowers, mementos and handwritten notes to mourn the victims of the attack.
