Somerville Resident Helps Raise over $20K for Boston Marathon

Somerville resident Chloe Poon and Boston resident Brendan Greally have raised over $20,000 and surpassed their $18,000 fundraising goal for the Boston Marathon. All proceeds go to the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center, Boston's largest Asian non-profit that serves immigrant families and local children and youth.

Chloe immigrated to the U.S. from Hong Kong with her family when she was 10 years old. Throughout her career, she has worked to help other immigrants who have made the same sacrifices that her parents made during her childhood. She interned at the Asian Task Force against Domestic Violence (ATASK) for two years, and worked in BCNC’s Youth Center as summer staff. After graduating from Tufts University in 2011, she became BCNC’s Adult Educations program coordinator and advisor, and was recently promoted to the position of Assistant Director. She says “I am running in the 2014 Boston Marathon for BCNC because I want to thank my parents for everything they did for me and to thank my students and colleagues for teaching me some of the most important life lessons I have learned thus far. I hope to contribute to BCNC as it continues to be the bridge to success for immigrants, by providing the resources and support that they need to advance in this country.”
