Celebrate Food Week in Somerville

This Thursday, Oct. 24, is National Food Day, a holiday and a movement around “healthy, affordable and sustainable food.” Since this is something we’re so passionate about in Somerville, we’re celebrating with #SomerFood Week. These are seven days of restaurant specials, cooking demos and opportunities to get together as a community to celebrate and share food.

Throughout the week there are two opportunities for you to win a contest by participating in Food Week events. This Wednesday, across the city, ‘Villens are invited to host a #SomerPotluck for their friends, family and neighbors. Let us know what you’re making for your potluck – a themed menu, a special lasagna recipe – and Mayor Curtatone might show up with a dish of his own. You can enter using the hashtag #SomerFood on Twitter or Facebook, or by sending an email to shapeupsam@somervillema.gov.

How else can you win? Our mascot and health & wellness ambassador, Shape Up Sam, has been all over the city over the past few days at different #SomerFood Week events. If you spot Sam, let us know, and you’ll be entered to win an incredible Local Prize Package, including a night’s stay at the Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel in the North End, and tickets to great food events in Somerville through 2014, like Cuisine en Locale’s Muertos III and the Welcome Project’s YUM: A Taste of Immigrant City. You can enter using the hashtag #SomerFood on Twitter or Facebook, or by sending an email to shapeupsam@somervillema.gov.
