6th Annual Riverfest at Assembly Row in Somerville Delivers Food Trucks, Fireworks, and More on Saturday, September 21st

Local anticipation is growing for the 6th Annual Riverfest at Somerville’s Assembly Row on September 21st from 11am to 9pm. Riverfest’s popularity has grown substantially with over 5,000 in attendance last year. This year’s festival has expanded the fun by doubling the number of food trucks andartists and increasing bands, all to take place in DCR’s newly renovated Baxter Park along the Mystic River. Riverfest also marks the final installment of ASSEMBLED: The Handmade Arts Market at Assembly Row. This16-week arts market that has been taking place weekly all summer long and will be going out with a bang, with more than 50 artisans, some a part of MODVIC’s ‘World of Steampunk Art & Design’, all coming together to showcase their work at Riverfest. In addition to the dozens of handmade artists, Riverfest will also feature a free kid’s area, live music all day long, fireworks over the Mystic River at 8pm, plus popular area food trucks, including:

Bon Me
Boston Super Dog
Frozen Hoagies
Lobsta Love
Grilled Cheese Nation
LM Slush
The Pasta Pot
The Spud Stud

There will also be artist seminars and demonstrations, and Somerville’s Mayor, Joseph A. Curtatone, will also be speaking preceding the fireworks show at 8pm.

Kid’s activities are all free and will include games and inflatable amusements, a photo booth, face painting, balloon artists, magicians, , music, , and more – making Riverfest 2013 to perfect day for families, foodies, and art-lovers alike.

A variety of Steampunk bands will be performing throughout the day, including: , Frenchy and the Punk, and Walter Sickert and the Army of Broken Toys. There will also be local performers including Eric Royer’s One Man Band; Bloco AfroBrazil, a percussion ensemble that combines traditional Brazilian grooves with funk, rock, jazz and hip-hop; and Peachpit, a local rock and roll group.

Assembly Row, developed by Federal Realty Investment Trust, is easily accessible by car with easy on-and-off from major highways, including I-93 and Route 28, and via public transportation with both Sullivan Square and Wellington Circle stations under one mile away.
